The Complete Guide to Shapewear

Shapewear has become increasingly popular even among younger generations, but it can be tricky finding the right shapewear for your own specific needs, especially if it’s a new genre of undergarments for you. The purpose of shapewear is less what we see on social media - the drastic reshaping of the body - and more about emphasizing natural shape and smoothing rolls and cellulite, and lifting where desired.

Choosing the right shapewear can make a big difference in how you feel and look in your clothes. Here are some tips to help you pick shapewear:

  1. Determine your target areas: Think about which areas of your body you want to smooth out or shape. Is it your tummy, hips, or thighs? Different types of shapewear are designed to target different areas, so knowing what you want to achieve can help you choose the right style.
  2. Consider your outfit: Think about what you'll be wearing over your shapewear. If you're wearing a dress, you'll want to choose shapewear that doesn't show through. If you're wearing pants, you might want to choose a pair of high-waist briefs or shorts that won't roll down.
  3. Choose the right size: It's essential to choose shapewear that fits you well. Shapewear that's too small can be uncomfortable and can cause bulges and lumps, while shapewear that's too big won't provide the desired shaping effect. Refer to the manufacturer's size chart to find the right size for you.
  4. Select the right level of control: Different types of shapewear offer varying levels of control, from light to firm. Consider the level of control you want, depending on the areas you want to target and the type of outfit you'll be wearing.
  5. Try before you buy: If possible, try on shapewear before you buy it. Walk around and move in it to make sure it's comfortable and doesn't roll down or ride up. We offer
  6. Choose the right fabric: Shapewear is available in a variety of materials, including nylon, spandex, and cotton. Consider your skin's sensitivity and choose a fabric that feels comfortable against your skin.

Remember, shapewear should be worn to enhance your natural shape and make you feel confident, not to change your body entirely. Choose shapewear that makes you feel comfortable and confident, and don't be afraid to experiment with different styles to find the right fit for you.

What ARE my shapewear options, though? While every company offers different options that target various zones, we’ll cover some of the most common shapewear pieces available from most brands.

  1. High-waisted briefs: These provide shaping and support for the tummy, waist, and hips. They often feature compression panels or boning to help smooth and shape the midsection.
  2. Thongs: Shaping thongs provide targeted shaping and smoothing to the midsection while leaving the buttocks exposed. They are a great option if you want to wear tight-fitting clothing without worrying about visible panty lines.
  3. Bodysuits: These provide full-body shaping and are designed to smooth and sculpt the entire midsection, including the tummy, waist, hips, thighs, and sometimes buttocks. They are available in different styles, such as long leg, short leg, and strapless.
  4. Camisoles: Shaping camisoles provide shaping and support for the tummy and waist while also smoothing and shaping the bust, and are commonly used under low cut or sheer tops.
  5. Shorts: Shaping shorts are designed to provide shaping and smoothing to your entire midsection, including your thighs and buttocks. They typically extend down to your mid-thigh or just above the knee and are made of a firmer, more compressive fabric than shaping thongs. Shaping shorts can help to smooth out any bulges or cellulite in your thighs and provide a sleek, streamlined silhouette under dresses, skirts, and pants.
  6. Waist cinchers: These are designed to shape and support the waist, often featuring boning or compression panels to provide extra support.

It’s important to test out different shapewear brands until you find something that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Remember, what works for one woman won’t necessarily work for you, as every body is different, and everyone’s desires are different. Lingerie Care

Lingerie can be a tricky thing to care for, especially when dealing with fine craftsmanship, luxurious bras, or high-quality materials that can’t wash with other garments.

Do’s:

  • When in doubt, hand wash with warm, not hot, water.
  • Dry naturally - hang up gently to avoid wrinkles.
  • Use a small amount of Soak Wash soap and gently massage your lingerie. No rinse necessary (Soak samples included with every online purchase). Click the link to view our Soak Wash products available for purchase.
  • Use a reusable laundry bag to keep your undergarments separate from other dirty garments. Click the link to view laundry bags available for purchase.
  • For loungewear, lay flat or hang gently to dry.
  • For loungewear, machine wash on warm, gentle settings. Hand wash advised.
  • For 100% silk products, dry clean, cold wash, and ironing ok. Handwashing may change the luster of silk.

Dont's:

  • Wash your lingerie in a washing machine. This can damage the materials, colors, embroideries, or cause harmful rips.
  • Tumble dry. Lingerie should always dry naturally and be hung up carefully away from other garments.
  • Iron.
  • Dry clean.
  • Bleach.
